How to apply for a National Police Check
Obtaining a copy of your criminal record or a police check in Australia is simple. You can either apply online or in person at your local police station. You will need to pay a fee of $42.00. Once your application is processed, you will receive an email with a link to download your criminal record or police check.
If you apply in person, you must fill out a form and provide identification, such as your driver’s license or passport. The fee for an in-person application is $45.00. You will receive your criminal record or police check immediately.
If you need a National Police Check for employment, volunteering, or fulfilling a legal obligation, you can apply through the Australian Federal Police (AFP) website. The cost is $42, and it usually takes one to three weeks to process.
Once you have submitted your application and paid the fee, the AFP will search their records and any state or territory police records that may be relevant. If they find any results that match your name and date of birth, they will send these to you in a National Police Certificate.
The Certificate will list any criminal offenses found and any pending charges or dismissed without a conviction. However, it should be noted that the Certificate does not include traffic offenses or infringements. If you have no criminal history, the AFP will send you a letter to confirm this.
